Montserrat by Rail with Lunch Ship to Air & TFR
Excursion Description

For guests whose flights depart from Barcelona International Airport after 3pm on debarkation day and who have not already purchased a transportation voucher from CCL to the airport.

The rugged Montserrat Mountain range northwest of Barcelona is one of Spain's most picturesque areas.

On this fascinating excursion from your ship you will:

View, like jagged teeth, the rocky formations soar skyward creating unparalleled natural beauty.

Discover the mysterious peaks which have inspired many legends and motivated Wagner to write some of his most beautiful arias.

Departing from the pier by motor coach, you will be driven towards the Gothic area, passing by Via Layetana and huge Cataluña Square.

Continues along Passeig de Gracia, a wide boulevard that connects the Gothic Quarter to the village of Gracia and is lined with lovely modernist buildings.

Your motor coach will drive you, for approximately one hour, to the rack railway where you will board a train for the 14-minute journey to the top of the mountain.

Here, you will have an exceptional view of the Montserrat mountains’ spectacular panorama. The scenic countryside, on this 40-mile ride, soon becomes craggy as you near the mountains.

See the famous Montserrat Monastery, founded as a Benedictine Abbey during the 11th century, that is firmly perched on a ledge hanging 2,400 feet above the Llogregat River, promoting the most amazing photographic moments. Here, the 12th century Black Virgin of Montserrat awaits your discovery.

Visit the beautiful monastery with your guide, enjoying free time afterwards.

Lunch will be served within Montserrat before proceeding on your hour journey to the Airport by motorcoach

NOTE: Comfortable shoes, water, a light jacket and a hat are recommended. There are downhill and uneven paths, plus cobblestones to walk over. There may be long lines to view the Black Virgin up close. The Boys’ Choir cannot be seen on Saturdays or during the months of July and August, and may be cancelled at any time due to reasons beyond our control. This excursion may operate in reverse. Access to the Basilica might be denied if mass is taking place.

Infants policy in regards to airport transfers is as follows; ages 0 – 23 months do not need tickets purchased and will sit on parents knee. Children 24 months and older will need to purchase a ticket and will have their own seat.

$122.99 per Adult $89.99 per Child

Our flight out isn't until night so we have to do something to kill time until then.

We fly from Barcelona to London Heathrow and overnight there. Then a late morning flight back to the States the next day. Since we probably will be beat, I reserved a room at the Sofitel London Heathrow Hotel. Should just be a few minutes walk to/from the BA terminal. Most of our luggage will be checked through, so we only need to deal with our carry-ons. Should be relatively painless, albeit perhaps pricey!
